Hi,

So I ended up with a Ring video wired doorbell instead of a Byron video wired doorbell as B&Q were out of stock (had ordered online) and they gave the Ring one at no extra cost (nice of them). Not what I was after but will have to make and do.

I don't really want to fork out and buy the Ring branded chime and adapter (Byron ones are much cheaper hence why I initially wanted those) as in comparison to other brands they are nearly double the price.

The setup I am after is the Ring doorbell with a 3rd party chime and an adapter.

Ring installation instructions specify that the plug in adapter requires 24Vdc 500mA.

A lot of issues and complaints from people stating their existing setups didn't work (chimes). I don't currently have any doorbell setup/wirings. I am assuming most complaints are due to the main issue being that majority if not all chimes operate at a voltage of 8V ONLY (based on my research looked through several popular branded ones). They would therefore have a stepdown transformer for 8V and not 8V to 24V as required for Ring - insufficient power.

I was able to find a chime that requires 24V AC, now the issue is the adapter is DC and Ring specifies DC as well. Would this be compatible/safe at all?

Thanks.

You can't have a mixture of AC and DC components unfortunately. And from what I understand, the wired version of the ring video doorbell will not work with existing chimes.
