Hi,

Nice easy one, I have a gas pipe, its metal, but painted, no supply to properly, its just capped, but live.

As for bonding, what would you do? Just sand some paint off and bung a clamp on it? That's my thoughts, whats yours? I know you are meant to only put it supply side, but there isn't one.

At the end of day it's a pipe with paint on it, just a pipe not a big thing just a pipe, if it needs bonding take paint off, and bond it's that easy, it does not mater how you get paint of just get it of, I do think the best thing to do is open valve light with long match, let pipe get nice and hot then paint will fall off, close valve let it cool down then call 999 ask for fire and run, put bill in for say £800 and then start a new post as to why you did not get paid

If there is no meter then the house is not a consumer and the gas pipe belongs to the gas supply company, not the householder so don't bond it.
It is a new one to me being a Gas Safe Registered fitter !

Nonsense, you obviously don't understand the purpose of bonding.

Bonding is installed to all conductive parts likely to introduce a potential in to an installation with the purpose of maintaining those conductive parts at the potential of the supply earth.

I am sure the fact that it doesn't belong to the customer will be of great comfort while he is getting his arse fried

Oh this has been dragged up again I see, and yes I bonded it, I drilled a small pilot hole, ring crimp on the end of cable then a self tapper, jobs a good n'

What are you doing here fella you should be giving your lass a rest with the bambino!

Oh Tony that was a perfect opportunity for the bird photo!!

I'm just bumping some of the older threads in the general electrical forum that had a lot of replies. They might not be current topics, if they're not, just ignore them and they'll soon drop off the list. If you DO wish to add a reply and get the conversation going again, feel free to do so. Your input might help somebody else in the future.
