Good luck to you OS, its hard out their on the domestic front anyway, I am seeing my time out now on metering 50 + suits me down to the ground!!!

Hard to know what to say mate. The good news is that the economy is still recovering, so I would say that things are likely to be getting better, rather than worse.

No job is secure nowadays, I've been made redundant several times. The last time, I changed from a design job in an office to self-employed on the tools. One of the main reasons was to avoid another P45. I like the freedom to choose when and how to work, but the financial uncertainty is huge.

When self-employed, knowing which jobs to turn down is crucial, although difficult when work is thin.

Good luck to you and your Mrs, whatever way you go.

Become a politician or a banker that seems a lucrative career

Any parasitic profession that produces nothing, or feeds off of others misfortune is always going to be lucrative industry. Think that's been well and truly proved over the last 5 years or so!!
