Hi guys

I been down in NZ for nearly five years and just got home to UK, of course applying for jobs proving to be a pain with being out country for five years! Nobody wants to touch me without 17th edition, seems a bit harsh to me.

Anyway i emailed couple of companies regards 17th edition training, one just replied back that i "must" take the beginners course in part p and 17th edition which is 14days long! This seems nonsense to me, hence i need some advice please chaps. before i left UK five years ago i was both 16th edition and 2391 / 240 qualified and was a qualifying manager for a NICEIC firm (even certified the Gherkin building in London). And yet this training company tells me i will have to do a beginners course in part p to do my 17th edition? What the.........

I am more than adequately skilled in electrics etc, i just need to refresh on 17th edition changes, surely there's a 1day course or something? I notice online courses, but very dubious of scams etc? They any good and legit guys? I not too worried about Part P right now as i always been a commercial / industrial sparky myself, i will do it as it be useful, but as i currently need work then 17th edition is urgent need for me first.

Thanks

OK. since the 17th edition amendment came out, the upgrade from 16th is no more. it is a dead parrot. the full 2382-12 is doable at a college near you, 12 evenings, for around £250, inc. the cost of the on-line exam.

Thanks friend, sadly with needing to find work today, a 12week course is a tad long.. So i need find the 2382-12 ? See if someone does a weekend course or something i hope.. Would still like feedback on online options being any good?

You will need the 2382-12 as a minimum but this should be straightforward for you, if you are already up to speed with the current UK regulations.
You do not need to do any Part P course, if you wanted to be registered with a scheme then just apply, you will already know about the building regulations.
You will likely need to pay for the BS7671 BGB.
There are numerous training providers that will do short courses, weekends etc the forum sponsors >>>>>
may be worth checking out, but the likely cost is about £400-500.
It may be worth checking with your local college if you can just do the exam only, not sure when the next dates are from C&G for the exam but you are still looking at a significant delay before you can receive the paperwork.
Have a search on the forum for online courses, there are varying reviews about! But really for you the quality of training will be immaterial as you would just need to be able to read the regulations to get the 17th qualification.

Good luck!

Must be cheap where you are tel, £500-£700 where I am.

I do it as a 4 day course, with the exam in the afternoon of day 4. Look around, there will be plenty of places in your area doing the same. Expect to pay about £450 all in.

Cheers..........Howard
