Hi all

I completed my level 2 year 2 2330 course and should of started college last Tuesday to start the year 3.

But I haven't and the reason being is it will cost me £1100 and the tutor told me if I am not in electrical work and do not plan on doing my NVQ ( because I can't as I don't work in the electrical environment)

So basically I would be in the same position as I am now apart from having another piece of paper saying I now have Level 3.

This is where I am at: I started the course 2 years ago for a back up in case anything happened to my current job, so far so good my current job is going well its getting really busy and I could probably see a future of about 5 years here before I needed to leave and start something else

But in the back of my mind I'm thinking I should be doing this course.........

I am working full time but it don't involve any electrical work so I could not complete the NVQ (after level 3)

So what I'm asking is this: Should I do the course anyway, pay the £1100 and then see what happens.

BIG QUESTION:
Is it easier to get work in the trade with a level 3 than level 2? ( even tho no NVQ)

The plan was to complete the level 3 2330, then do the regs and probably a 2391 inspection and testing or an equivalent.

So confused as to what I should do....if I am going to jump on the course I don't really want to miss any more weeks as I know level 3 is quite full on.

any help would be really appreciated.

Regards

Mainly yes, there will be some testing involved.......why do you ask?

Because you said you needed to be in work to complete the 2330? I was wondering why? Unless I've misunderstood!
It's possible to pass 2391-10 without ever doing inspection & testing before, and I don't think the testing part of 2330 is as 'strict' shall we say.

Ah, no I don't need to be in work to complete the 2330 level 3 but to complete the NVQ I do.
I've been told the level 3 2330 will complete 8 out of the 9 modules needed for the NVQ

That's the problem I have, yes I could complete level 3 but I can't do the NVQ because I don't work in the trade.
That's the reason I'm here asking should I even bother with level 3 if I can't do the NVQ :(

I just wish they told me this before I even started level 2!

Is that the 10 hour exam your saying is not so strict?

I really do appreciate the replies I have.

Oh, I see. Can you use the modules from 2330 so you don't have to do the complete NVQ then?
Whats the 10 hour exam on?

In the 2330 there are 8 modules you will complete which will go towards the NVQ when you eventually enroll on it.

I've been told the 10 hour exam is on fault finding, although the tutor has said it will not take that long, guess its like the "8 hour practical" in level 2 which usually takes 4 hours.

Bit confused here, but can you apply for the JIB gold card with the 2330 level 3 at the moment without the NVQ. Also you have to be registered as undertaking it before December or you will not be able to take the 2330 level 3.

completly confussed here maybe i am wrong but is the nvq not a stand a lone qualification and not connected to the 2330

It is a stand a lone qualification but everyone I have asked say you need to do the NVQ to complete your training.

You have to be on level 3 or have completed level 3 before you enroll on the NVQ.

You're not going to be able to walk straight into an electrician's job on £14 an hour with no experience. The idea of working as a mate on a lower rate is to gain that experience, which you would prove by doing the NVQ3.

I think the new course incorporates the 2330 level 3 and nvq in one but they are seperate at the moment

yes but for the new course you have to be working in the trade, at least at the moment you can complete the 2330 while in other work. But not the NVQ.
