I want to set up a simple plugged in to socket cable with dimmer switch box in the middle and a straight batten with bulb in for some bulb photography i need to do. I have a plug, two core wire, dimmer switch with box to encase it and a straight batten. Want to be able to dim bulb low. Can someone direct me please.

i think thisis a simple DIY job, and as such warrants a bit of advice. basically, wire plug as normal, 5A fuse. other end of flex from plug, L (brown) into C of dimmer, N (blue) into a connector. then from L1 in dimmer to feed L to lamp. N from connector to feed N to light, earths to be continuous from plug to light, where may be dead end terminated in a connector if the lamp housing does not have an earth terminal. once wired up , plug i, bearing in mind safe working at all times, no exposed live pars etc., etc.

can'tsee whatgoes where from that pic, but the dimmer wiring looks OK

Secure those flexes with p clips or something also, to save any movement where they are connected.
