Anyone got any views on this piece of kit? A Fluke 2042 cable locator?

Supposed to be a first class bit of kit but for £430 it needs to be. If you are only looking to use it for fuse identification and cable tracing in walls there are cheaper alternatives available.

Can't remember the make but was looking at one in local WF the other day for under fifty quid. Can be used for fuse locating/identifying, tracing cables in walls and at shallow depth in ground. Have just quoted on rewiring communal areas in ten storey block of flats and will need one for this if we get it.

the big advantage with fluke is it works on non energised cables but also on metal pipework. And it looks the nuts.
