Hello and thank you to all who helped at post ID http://www.electriciansforums.co.uk...241-grey-haired-sawdust-maker-needs-hand.html

I am replacing the Mains In and Supply Out isolator switch and would welcome knowing what terminals to use.

Setup is 240v 1ph running 2.2kw (3 seperate) motors which will supplied from distribution point using industrial 3 pin 15a connectors.

Accordingly I am looking for advice on supply in and single supply out connection.

I attach 2 x pics of the isolator switch.

L1, L2, L3 are the incomer terminals. T1,T2,T3 are the corresponding uotgoing terminals, the 4th pair is generally used for N. if using for only 1 phase, you take your pick e.g. L1 and T1 for Lin/Lout.

edit: what is the current rating of the isolator?

Hi Telectrix

Thanks for your input.

Specs for switch is:
ROTARY ISOLATOR SWITCH 4 pole PV IP65 20 Amp Lockable TP&N Load break Insulated

BTW albeit the machine has 3 x separate 2.2kw motors only one will be used at any one time.

I am not sure I understand your answer.

I 'thought' I would be connecting the following.

(1) Earth to Left hand connectors (strapping from bottom to top if both are used)
(2) Neutral Incoming supply to L1
(3) Neutral outgoing to T1
(3) Live Incoming supply to top of where the switch symbol is (far right top)
(4) Live outgoing to bottom of where the switch symbol is (far right bottom)

Am I being to simplistic in my thoughts ???

totally wrong. L1, L2. and L3 are your "lives". this isolator is designed for 3 phase, but you can use for single phase. as you total load is more like 30A, the isolator needs to be a 40A rating. end of.

use L1-T1 for L, and as for N. use a multimeter to see if the 4th terminal on the right switches. if so, you can use that for N..

Got it.

If the switch is under spec I will change it.

BUT if I use only one 2.2kw motor at a time which shows 12.5A on the plate is the isolator switch spec at 20A not sufficient ??
