No experience currently but looking to change my career and train to become an electrician
Hi everyone, I just thought I'd say hello since I am new to this forum.

I am looking for a complete career change and am set on becoming an electrician. I dont have any experience other than changing plugs and sockets at home 🙈

This is not a decision I've taken lightly considering I'm 38yrs old and have worked in offices all my days.

I have already contacted SECTT, who have explained the 2 options I have to become an electrician - apprenticeship or adult trainee scheme.

Before I go down the apprenticeship route, I'm hoping to get in touch with a contractor who'd be willing to take me on as a mate/labourer for a year, with the potential to support me through the Adult Training Scheme (a big ask I know but anything is possible, right?)

Anyway, if you know any contractors who might be able to help me, please send them my way!

Nice one! From the other forums I think I've seen a couple of people from Glasgow. What's your story pirate? What made you join the forum?

@littlespark I knew there were a couple of Glasgow folk on here but I wasn't aware of more than that. I seldom look at the whereabouts of posters who contribute regularly. I am aware of quite a number of Scotland-based members, just not specifically Glasgow.
@Shanna I joined the forum to learn more about electrical installation which had been a "hobby" for maybe 40 years, and as I approached retirement I wanted to increase my knowledge, particularly safety and good working practices, and also following new developments in the industry.
I have learnt a huge amount from the forum, with members contributing valuable information from all aspects, and while a lot of it is beyond my knowledge the practical information given is invaluable. I am certain you will find this forum useful, helpful, amusing and very beneficial on your journey.
