So Me and the lad go into a 2 bed property thats been flodded weeks ago. the builders have managed to re build the ceilings, skim them and we come in... all the power is on in the property and heaters are running.. The lighting MCB is off, and im there to see whats needed. "Hey Seb stick the Lighting MCB on lets see whats not working".
"BANG" Ohh oh well thats why the lights are off,, " OH why has the heaters stoped?"
Hmm, no RCD or MCB tripped except the lighting! Pull service fuse, all OK! Check incoming supply, Nothing! so we tip toe away...
Go back a day latter to find a generator Supplying the street and holes everywhere as they dig up the street finding the fault, Ever heard the saying the straw that broke the cammels back. I say the 6AMP mcb that took the street out!!!

Love it hahahaha

I hope there was a little more consideration / basic testing before whipping the service fuse out lol - maybe it was just the casual way you worded it lol.

6amp MCB taking the street out lol? Nah, coincidence....power failure, water in on the mains somewhere...

Edit,, sorry yes I forgot I after 25+ years experiance. On an open forum I need to say everything was done by the book.. Ohh for a room where you can say you worked live etc without the reputle..

My mistake even though network power said they had seen it before, I must have been mistaken. Yes I followed every Health and safty procedure needed... And no I didnt pull the Service fuse, I lied..Even though I contracted for the EEB years ago I know i shouldnt and I didnt, no honest govner.. No no rules broken... Now wheres that cotton wool that all sparks need to wrap them self up in..

Few weeks ago I had a clumsy moment and managed to short a 3ph board (long story and not as imbecilic as you might think, accidents do happen). Anyway, then had to go hunting around to find the upstream supply as it had killed itself...couldn't find it for toffee. Clamped the phase tail at source and it seemed pretty dead.....then I heard one heck of a commotion outside and sirens wailing...started to wonder if I'd broken the village!! Then I found the fuse....phew!!!

I know the feeling - was it you or was it a culmination of things adding up to cause the disconnection.
25+ years ago, I'd just completed a rewire, did all the dead tests, connected up and switched on - poof.
I thought that was a strange sound and went outside to have a look. A mushroom plumb of orange/brown smoke was rising from the direction of the local 33kV/11kV switching station. It appeared after chatting to somebody from the local supply company That local mains transformer had expired removing power to a 3rd of the town. The chap also told me that boiling Tx oil will remove paint off of cars.........

Wow, not many domestic sparks can say they blew up a substation!

I didn't - I deny all knowledge of it, so to speak. I just happened to be there when it went up - pure coincidence, but it did have me thinking for a bit..........

It was a particularly hot, but ordinary, day, so I couldn't see why the oil had overheated, unless the Tx was overdue for maintenance.

It was a spectacular plume......
