Firstly, just to re-assure professionals here, all tie-in and testing on this project will be undertaken by a qualified electrician. This post is just to improve my understanding.

We are preparing to have solar and wind power generation facilities at our home and the first phase of this is to have the main incoming grid supply and fuse re-located from the house to a nearby garage. This is to make the tie-ins of the generation and batteries a lot simpler. When we move the fuse we will of course need to take a supply back into the house to feed the distribution boards.

My question - what sort and size of cable should be used to take the supply to the house? Does it need to take the live, neutral and earth across? Also, what is the minimum depth recommended or required when burying such a cable?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Now is the time to find a spark who is going to oversee and install the supply from garage to house.

they will probably ask for a duct to be installed.

don’t put yourself in a position where the spark you employ says no, can’t use that cable etc.
you will not have a leg to stand on when you tell him/her that it is ok because they said so on an Internet forum.

Thanks for the reply. I shan't be installing a cable or anything else until I've had an electrician look at the job first hand. My query was just looking for information on how the existing supply cable to the house would be replaced with one coming from the re-located fuse/meter.
