Hello everyone,

I shall start that I had some works done yesterday involving wiring and somebody will come over to check but I wanted your advice.

Yesterday I turned on the oven, after a couple of minutes lights started flickering, then off, no electricity in the whole flat. Nada.Niet. Other flats seem ok and the suppliers doesn'see any fault reported. The fuses seem ok, the meter is all shut, no lights, no message, no response to the blue button. I also tried unplugging all appliances and removing the fuses. Still in the dark. What coukd it be? Wiring fault or meter gone? I am not even sure there is an RCD as I just moved in..

Does the set up go from service cut out, your meter, fuse board(s)? Or is it coming through a switched fuse elsewhere before coming to your meter then fuse boards? Any Henley blocks on the tails?

If there is nothing displayed on your meter (I'm guessing its a digital one?) there is no power going to it probably meaning one of the bigger fuses has gone.

Best get a electrician in as you'll need proper test equipment to find out any issues on the meter tails side of things, 'a nasty belt' is a understatement if you get it wrong there

i would suspect that you have a RCD that has tripped. maybe due to a fault on the oven. check your CU and make sure that all the switches are in the UP position.

An electrician is coming.
There are three switches all in the UP position, all fuses seem ok, seems to be a grey box before the meter than fuse box (that box is turned on too). And yes there were quite some money in the token. If there was an internal fault getting rid of the fuse would bypass the problem wouldn't it?

"If there was an internal fault getting rid of the fuse would bypass the problem wouldn't it?"

NO, the fuse has blown/tripped because of an electricial fault and its the fuse that saves you from getting a shock or killed!!! Its done its job and you are alive, your flat has not burnt down, do not bypass the fuse that would be like getting rid of your cars brake pads because they squeak!!!!

The electrician said that there is not electricity whatsoever in the flat and probably some switch tripped downstairs (in the communal areas of the building where I have no access).. could it still be some faulty appliance/loose connection?

If your meter is not lighting up/display showing then its a fault before your meter as the electrician has said. You need to contact your electricity supplier or gain access the to the communial area and get the main fuse or supply cables checked.

Perfectly right, the oven blew the main fuse, with some surprise I have seen that one of the fuses is live there :74:

Need to notify the council :/
