UK One light working in the whole house

Hi, I tried to put a dimmer switch in. There was a little crackling and the light was flickering. I put the old light fighting back on and now the light I was working on is the only one that works in the whole house. I have checked the fuse box and all the other electric things are working. Would someone please able to advise on what I might have done?

So you have changed the light fitting and the light switch?

Sounds to me like you have interrupted the first light on a 3 plate

Did you take photos of the old switch & wiring before removing it to fit the dimmer?
i.e. can you 100% confirm you have put it back as it was?

Probably disconnected a loop in/out at either the switch or the light fitting. Did you take any pics before dabbling?

Crackling and flickering suggests you have not made a good connection.

I would strongly recommend turning the circuit off and contacting an electrician to sort this out.

1 hour for a spark to fix. , £40 -£45. teach you to dabble where you are out of your depth.

With respect I doubt that, as suggested above, the crackling/flickering indicates something is different to how it was beforehand. Call a local sparks to fix it for you.

You mention changing a switch, then a light fitting? Thats what is confusing us.
Did you change one, the other or both?

Usually with tree plate lighting if it is wired wrong it normally goes bang or the other rooms will only work with the other room light switch on. In this case, I think that a cable is loose, broken or come out of the connection. I would be careful it's not copper-clad or aluminium cable.

Sorry, I changed a light switch to a dimmer. I have since reconnected the original switch back and the light connected to that switch is the only one working in the house.

Nothing went bang, no fuses blew, the light I was working on is fine and all other power in the house is working fine.

@Jordansenior can you put up a photo of your consumer unit? How many lighting circuits are on the board?
