Evening all,

This is my first post on here so I apologise in advance if this is posted in the wrong place or this has been covered before, I have done a search but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Basically, I work for a fire protection company and we have recently got a contract for servicing the fire alarm and emergency lighting in the communal areas of a block of flats. Along with a few other issues, one of the emergency lights (a bulkhead) has been damaged and needs to be replaced hence my question.

Does replacing the damaged bulkhead with a new bulkhead come under Part P? The landlord does have a separate meter and each flat has its own meter.

thanks in advance

My view is communal areas to flats would fall under part p, however the task your proposing is a like for like replacement so no requirement for part p notification, you may wish to complete a MWC for the landlord

Yes it is covered by Part P.
However it is not something that requires notification under Part P.
As a basic guide, the things that require notification under Part P are:
New circuits, DB/CU changes, work within the bathroom zones, work within a kitchen, and some exterior work.

Really? Surely if only a new circuit!

They have changed it now, but don't worry, by the time you've worked out what is or isn't notifiable they'll have either diyed it or got Bodgeit Bob from down the pub to do it.

Replacing this bulkhead shouldnt be any problem as its what your paid to do.

Your company get paid to make these remedials or quote for them - regardless of being part p... - (this is what my owner of a fire n security firm would say)

Thanks for the replies.

In response to the "cant be bothered comments", we have made considerable effort to find the answer to the question but can't find anything that answers the questions specifically. (Maybe missing the obvious) Being a company that deal with commercial only, I thought this would be the place for advice from sparks that do domestic work regularly.

Thanks again for all the replies
