Pond pump is still tripping RCD which means I loose all power to socket outlets upstairs downstairs and kitchen (with freezer in it).Why doesnt mcb trip instead and what could be causing RCD to trip.Any advice would really be appreciated.

The RCD will trip on earth leakage, the MCB will trip on overcurrent. The 2 devices are completely different and perform different tasks.

Your RCD is tripping due to earth leakage in the pump, probably water as Tel said.

The MCB will only trip if you overload for any length of time, or under short circuit conditions.

Can you unplug or otherwise isolate the pump from the circuit?...if it still trips there is a fault on the wiring,if it doesn't the pump is naffed. You can get the pump tested but it would be pretty pointless,if it is tripping the RCD it must have an earth fault. They are not repairable.

The fuse is unrelated to the tripping. It will likely trip again.
It is possible that the pump may be OK and there is a fault in the wiring to the pump which trips the RCD when it gets wet (rains). Check any connectors or joint boxes. All must be in watertight enclosures. PVC tape doesn't cut it.

is that all you did changed the fuse bs1362?
doesnt make sense why the rcd would trip you say everything goes upstairs/downstairs socket is this all on one rcd? could be accumlative leakage?

Last time I saw something like this the pump would pump for a few minutes and then trip the RCD. Turned out the pump was faulty and it was about 5 years old. New pump fitted and problem resolved.

or a possible poor connection on the fuse/fuse carrier, causing a bit of arcing. only time will tell if that has solved the problem.

Place your bets please.

2/1 it will trip again within the next 48 hours.

5/1 its the pump on its way out.

9/2 its an accumulated earth leakage

10/1 all of the above.

Place your bets now :).

There's been no mention of fish? Oh maybe they have got an electric eel that's tripping the rcd? Ok I'm getting silly again, I bet its the motor.
