Hi folks, newbie here, been out the trade for over 10years off the tools, was working in a chemical plant as an operator. Left 3 years ago and was doing various things, taxi etc. Need to get back into sparkying to keep the wife happy ? would be mostly domestic stuff working on my own for myself. I’m 16th ed so 1st question, can I do the 18th online? During these times of covid or do I need to go to a test centre, I’m in Glasgow. If so, can anyone give me a few links for the best online courses? No clue what the best way to go about things, how do I get my JIB card upgraded once I've done the 18th, do I need to do a safety course also to get the CSCS thing on the card incase I need to go with an agency or a firm if I can’t pick up my own work? Cheers.

you will need the H&S . it's £40 for the test. a booklet with all possible Q&A's is available for £15. then with 18th ( about £300 for course and exam), apply for JIB/ECS card.

Dunno, just heard about part p after doing some digging. Why do you need this? Is the 18th not enough? Sounds like another money making exercise.

In a nut shell it is a scam concocted to extract money from electricians and other multi trades who need tp notify the planning department about additional new wiring

Ahhhh right, so you need the part p if someone is altering their house like an extension or something that needs signed off by building control.

Only if it’s a brand new circuit or special location for example bathroom / wet room
