I was asked to sign off a builders electrical work, it was just a couple of spurs off of ring for rads/ underfloor heating. I just did minor works but when you sign it your signing to say you carried out works should I have done a full EIC ?

Any cert is issued when YOU have done the work. You shouldn't be signing off somebody else's work. You could always do an EICR for the whole property!

Not the ideal first post on here. Get your tin hat on. Do you understand the concept of "self certification"?

You have effectly just guaranteed the workmanship with your own company name. Lets hope the builder has done it right

I've just dragged this from the latest edition of part P

  • An installer who is not a registered competent person may use a registered third party to certifynotifiable electrical installation work as an alternative to using a building control body.

Yup, but the schemes, who "control" the registered members haven't agreed a process as yet.

What's a shute?

To be fair I was quite thorough and house was rewired 1yr ago if it had been shabby I wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole!

"Full EIC" just as non-compliant as MWC because YOU haven't designed or installed. Until 3rd party sign off process sorted out by schemes, I can only think an EICR limited to that circuit as acceptable. Bit unorthodox perhaps but if client make that the purpose of EICR then at least its clear you didn't install & what you have tested/inspected. Include intake & bonding inspection as well of course

Best you can do in this situation is carry out an EICR limited to that part of that circuit.

In that way, you are certifying that the circuit tests out ok, but crucially, you are only signing off the visible work.

The new part pee 'registered third party' option also stipulates that an EICR be issued, not an EIC.

You can do it with napit, (Its in there FAQ somewhere) You just put your name down for testing and inspection, and list there name as construction, along side a note in the comment box.

Isn't that just the standard multiple signature electrical installation certificate which is signed by the individuals responsible for design, construction and inspection/testing. To be used if different persons within the same company were responsible for those different stages and were competent in those areas?

Are Napit and others suggesting that, say, DIYers can sign these for the design and/or construction stages? Not sure I'm comfortable with that.
