Discuss Zs test with isolator in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

Tbh there is no harm in calculating the Zs. When testing a circuit that is rcd protected and has sensitive equiment attached. Testing on low current no trip will give you a false reading.

You guys love to put everyone down.. Must make you feel good?

And i have not done a 17 day/5 week course at a training centre....

I done my 2330 level3

Thanks

As Tel Mentioned you were not the Target

It is these modern college lecturers who have brain washed the trainees today to calculate. Ridiculous, one of the easiest tests carried out and they are promoting calculation haha.

If you state "tested to isolator" on the cert i dont see a problem with it.. Aslong as person ordering the work is aware. You would insulation resistance test to the isolator also! This said i would also Zs at futhest point in circuit!

The isolator would in the majority of cases, be the furthest point on the ''Fixed'' installation. You wouldn't normally test IR or Zs past that point.

Is it something to do with this Live testing counts as Live working bullshyte?!?!
Who are these people?

it it does make sense for them to teach how to calculate Zs as like already stated it is classed as live working. Elf and safety gone mad again ? Well probably not when you think some of the trainees have very little electrical knowledge and even less practical experience. Some Should not be let loose with anything more than a 9V battery.

Well tbh Ive been wiring a few Mitsubishi Ecodan Air Source Heat Pumps and always take my Zs reading at the rotary isolator. The cost of the ecodan unit is £4500 and dont really want to damage the unit! Testing Zs at low current also. :)
Why on earth would it or can damage your unit ?
Your not getting confused with testing Zs and mistaking it with 500vdc IR are you ?
Not trying to be condersending buddy but Zs at the extremely is not connected to your unit.
