Quick question about rewiring a plug

Hi I'm in the uk. My dog has chewed the plug off our tv upstairs during the night.

The earth pin is plastic.

When I'm rewiring a new plug into it, am I okay to use a plug that had a metal earth pin but obviously don't attach anything to it?

Correct.
You cut off the one your dog ate, strip back the outer sheathing, you should see two coloured wires. One blue, this goes on the N. One BROWN, this goes on the L

And make sure you use the correct fuse. Check the one in the chewed plug and use that.

If it's FUBAR then get another one of the same amp value.

Fair point.
Most BS 1363 plugs come with a 13amp fuse as standard.
Bin the fuse and pop in the one out of chewed one.

The one in the chewed plug may have been a 13A

I know mate, no disrespect to the OP but he/She may not be aware of the dangers of installing the wrong sized fuse.

Cheers guys I'm confident rewiring the plug and the fuse should be intact as she's just chewed through the wire and pulled the plug off.

Just wanted to make sure a normal metal 3 pin plug would be fine as the current one has a plastic earth pin.

Luckily I unplugged it before going to bed.

A little known fact about re-wiring a plug is make sure the live cable is as short as possible especially compared to the neutral. If the lead is pulled out of the plug then the live will come out first.

I believe a VS1363 plug is designed so the live conductor is always the shortest. And if you tighten the clamp it shouldn't pull out in the first place.

True but I have often seen a meandering live finally getting into the terminal and stuffed in tighter than sardines, and people tripping on cables can and do pull the lead out on occasions, especially when they do not bother to use the cable clamp, seen very often.

Ah cool I'll bare that in mind then Vortigern. Telectrix unfortunately she's an 8 month old Husky and it's their nature to chew things up especially during puppy stages

That is a very useful tip -- I re-wired a plug only yesterday, and did not think of that at the time. Now I feel obliged to re-do it ...
