I would never hold back on information. But as to giving the “answer” yes I would.
How do you learn, by study, by asking questions and at times by trial and error. I was lucky in my apprenticeship we had the facilities and the people that gave me the opportunity to try things, OK the tradesmen and Forman would be standing back watching me so I didn’t do any harm to myself or do to much damage.
The last apprentice I had, I had a great time with him and believe me I learnt as much as he did. He had me digging out textbooks I’d never opened for 25 years. If I asked the company for time out with him they would grant it. The senior electrical engineer watched one of our sessions and took me on one side afterwards. “Your bloody mad, but he won’t forget that in a hurry”. We set fire to a transformer by over loading it. Combined electrical theory (transformer protection) along with practical fire fighting! (It was an old transformer due for scrap).
You have to ask questions to learn, but don’t expect the answer given on a plate.
