need to run a alarm cable between buildings 20m apart (agricultural), no vehicular access. do i still have to suspend it with catenary 5.8m in heigh
buried is out of question due to pipe work etc.

alarm cable will stretch and snap if not supported, bt overhead cable has 3 steel strands in for that reason, cant you go wireless ?

Imagine a couple of big fat magpies that fancy a quick smoke break and rest, sitting on the cable ;)

the cable is a 12core cable for different alarms and control. i don,t mind additional supports but does it still have to be 5.8m high.

Ask any BT engineer which profession manages to snap or damage the most overhead cables, particularly in rural areas !
