Container wiring

Hope someone can help.

I have a job to install lighting and power to 2 containers used for chemical storage (non corrosive).

My problem is this; the containers are not ply lined and so I am unsure of the best way to get a fixing for conduits and accessories. I am thinking PVC conduit would be sufficient.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

To Be honest I would use MICC for this.

PVC conduit might not be acceptable even if non corrosive and also might not be actually man enough for the job.

Are you taking these containers to be transportable units and therefore come under regs 717?

Chemical possibly equals ventilation.

Lenny, just chemicals used in chromatography.

My main problem is getting fixings to the metal container. Ventilation is also being sorted.

There are some very good adhesive fittings around but be careful because there's some kak ones as well. I've use a doublesided tape manufactured by 3M in the past, it comes with engineering data about the bond it will provide on different surfaces and what pressure & temperature must be used and for how long. It's not an easy way out though as the preparation of the surfaces to be bonded to has to be very methodical.

What ever chemicals are used I would recommend the use of out door CU’s and switches. Some of the chemicals used in commercial film development are toxic / corrosive and need treating with respect. Ventilation is a prime consideration.

Also, you may find that if the container is to be moved then if you drill the structure then it will be uninsurable, some of the containers cannot even be welded now without pre and post weld heat treatment due to them being HSLA steels.
Also puncturing the skin would cause a leak, and if the containers are for "containment" of the chemicals then you would need to ensure that any skin punctures would be adequately sealed to contain any spillage.
Agree with the "any chemicals" bit too, with consideration then you would need to think about the external influences, corrosive vapours and gasses, flammable etc.
Would probably realistically have to be a full ATEX install?
You may need to get a bit more info, if it were a common or garden install then I would say "Gripfill" boards to the sides with loads og adhesive and screw to them, however, in this instance I believe a lot more consideration is required.

One other thing, check your insurance for working with chemicals etc. as you may find it is excluded, almost certainly ATEX areas will be unless you have it added.
