Looks good - fishing a bit quicker than cut, drill, feed, fill etc. May I suggest leaving additional cable so it's nice and loose in the ceiling space.

I would suggest in the picture shown the reason for the battens is for sound proofing. By cross battening, less plasterboard is in contact with the floor above, therefore this would reduce impact sound from above.
