I am new here, I live in the Philippines and I am eager to learn how to properly do electrical maintenance.

HI.

UK and PH Electrics are 2 very different things !. I believe there is no formal training offered at all in the PH Now other than TESDA ? And the cost can stop many .Even qualified , the wages average 415000 peso a year (£6.5 k ) The first step would be access to either a online Guide or Book etc That shows the basic circuit diagrams etc etc . Also to Purchase correct tools . This always seem to be a issue with far too many using NONE VDE tools and limited common sense when it comes to "health and safety " :) ! Also are looking at domestic or commercial /marine work ? . What shocks me is the increase in cost of materials yet the wages are still low. Trying to make a living must be terrible .Its not cheap any more for a 3rd world country . Where are you living there ?

Yes, that is unfortunately all very true and to be honest, this is why I am even in an international forum asking advice about a backup power supply. I just cannot trust what any Filipino electrician tells me.
The question I asked in the DIY forum, I have had multiple answers from people here, some think it's fine but some think it's dangerous and to be honest, I have no clue who to trust so I ask in here where hopefully someone professionally trained can answer if it's a good idea or not.

I also have to apologize to you as I seem to have given you the wrong idea about me, I am not looking to become an electrician, I am only looking for ways to make things safer here with regards to my own house. I truly am sorry for giving you that impression, English is not my first language.

OK ! A few pics might help. What is the state of the electrics in the property at the moment and what options for a back up system have you thought about that suits your budget ?

Honestly I just need a backup power system for my computer and equipment, I did have a UPS which I had already replaced that battery inside with a bigger one, it lasted well but finally gave up in a spectacular light show (I'm pretty sure was caused by numerous rapid fluctuations of voltage between 160-255v.)
I could buy another UPS but they aren't really designed to run for the periods of time it would be required and I'm thinking there may be a better option, like buying a 1kw hybrid inverter and a 12v100ah lifepo4 battery.

If possible I would like to have the inverter connected to the main supply for charging the battery and then to provide passthough power and it should I think work like a UPS where if power goes or voltage goes too low the inverter switches to battery.

This inverter says it can handle those sorts of voltage fluctuations but again, I am really not sure.

The AC out on the inverter would not be on a circuit but instead connected to a switch that only supplies the needed equipment.

I just don't know if this is a stupid idea or not, I am a complete novice with these things.
