Hi chaps,

I'll start by telling you about what i have done and am doing now. I am 27 and have been working in the industrial door
industry in the midlands area for about 9 years. Initally as a mechanical fitter but around 5 years ago i started training
to become an electrician (c&g 2330 levels 2 & 3) which i completed and have since been working for the same company
as an electrician. Mostly fault finding on control circuits or with motor starters etc. However as motors/starters are
becoming more advanced they seem to be getting easier to fit and harder to repair. so the fitting part of my job is in
decline as the mechanical fitters are wiring (plugging in) and when they fail are generally just replaced as a unit rather
components.

Which brings me onto what i would like to do which is get into more "mainstream" electrical work. i realise i would need to
compplete my 17th which i would be more than happy to do. What i'm really after is some advice on how to get into the
industry? i'm in the process of writting a letter to send to every electrical contractors in a 20 mile radius of my home address
with the hope of gaining some work experience or a position as an improver, mate or trainee. I believe that i have the basic
skills and knowlege but am not nieve enough to start applying for jobs as an electrician.

I've gone on way to much (sorry) so i'll finish by saying hello to you all and thanks for any advice you may have for me,

Cheers George.

Hi & welcome.:)

Welcome to the forum and good luck with finding appropriate work.

Have a look on here for qualifications required for electricians, there is a good summary thread but I have forgotten what it is called, sorry.

Most employers are looking for fully qualified people, so may be a bit slow for you initially.
The industry is a bit down at the moment , but I am sure something will arise.
You will without doubt need the C&G 2382 (17th Edition)
A lot of employers are looking for C&G 2391-10 (just about to be updated 2012 for I think 2394 or 5.

Good luck.
