I was to asked to add a spur on a ring circuit.
I done a continuity test to make sure i had a ring the N-N was 0.46 CPC-CPC was 1.08, But my L-L was 2.4, i went round every socket looking for a loose conection.
Tightened up a few loose sockets and the reading came down to 1.9 i coudlnt find any junction boxes as the house has recently been renovated with hardwood flooring throughout so i cant get access under floor or in a cupboard that has been closed off to check. Im not to happy leaving it as is but im at a bit of a dead end as to what i can do next. Any opinioms would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you check for trapped insulation, conductors only just making contact in terminals?

If you have then it's probably a JB. split the ring in half at a socket, do a continuity test between leg at the board and leg at the socket using a wondering lead and repeat the process until you find it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes i checked for trapped insulation. My thinking is junction box, the kitchen was previously on the downstairs ring circuit but there was a new kitchen ring ran for the big fancy kitchen with full splash back, the cupboard that was blanked off was in the kitchen so i fear the problem may be in there.

Is the customer willing to pay for you to spend the time fault finding?

If the ring final circuit has been added to/extended previously like you said for the kitchen then I would bet it's a JB or badly crimped joint.

Yeah thats what i think.
i have a feeling the customer wants me to tell him it will be ok to leave as it is. There wont be much load on it the circuit. A couple of tvs, table lamps and a phone. But a bad connection is still a bad connection. I dont know what else to tell the guy. I dont want to leave it

The customer can want as much as he desires...tell him your findings, offer the option of curing it,and do as instructed...these issues occur everyday and all that is required of your good self,is to be honest, polite, and move on...:28:
