Hi Everyone,
I want to install a PIR sensor in my garage so thatthe lights automatically switch on and want to wire from the light switch.(Basically use the PIR as a second switch)
I have installed 1 switch as permanent on/off and 1 switch toisolate the PIR, so i can switch off the PIR or have the lights permanently on ifrequired, I have installed the additional switch already.

On the back of my current light switch I have the following connections:

COM - Yellow Cable

L1 – Black Cable
L2 – Red Cable

On the PIR I have connections

N – Neutral
E – Earth
L – Live
L1 – Switched.

I am struggling to chase the wires back to their destinationand have wire as per my initial thoughts but was unable to get the PIR tooperate when the permanent switch was off and PIR switch on.

Please can someone provide some help on how to wire?
Thanks

Hello Pete and welcome to the forum.

In your profile you are an engineer, as such we will leave your question in the General section for now in stead of the DIYers section. Any problems please hit the "Report Button" on the bottom left of the post of any un-useful comments.

i'll go this far. your problem is that you don't have a neutral at the switch. best to sit down with pen and a smoke packet. draw it out. you'll probably find your neutral at the light fitting. can't say more without seeing it.

(one) Normal way of wiring it:

with three cables connected to your light switch it sounds like you have a two way switch (where else is it switched?)
