Hi mate, I had my ELECSA assessment in June, do not own a proving unit and was never asked to see one, so long as you prove on a known live source, aka safe isolation procedure.
No. Never owned a proving unit and have had a few elecsa assessments. You just need to show that you can demonstrate safe working. You can use any known voltage source before and after proving. For example a nearby socket with test lead adapter in place, or main switch input terminals if at the CU. Some may wish to argue about this but my assessor has no problem with it. Don't forget though that if you are working on a circuit you need to ensure that both live conductors are isolated - ie line and neutral - to avoid the risk of any other circuit with shared neutral being energised and under load.
