Hi Chaps....

This one is for anyone that prices by point.

Just want see how I compare and what others are charging per down light.

I charge £38/per standard GU10 fitting any finish non IP - regardless of how many.

Many Thanks,

Sy

Nop that's all on top if required....

Also based on it being a plasterboard ceiling - new build or fully occupied house with chipboard floors same price.

Doesn't included patching or re skimming ceiling if required (no access from above - tiled floor etc) or getting carpet back down perfectly

depends what price youre getting the downlights for (if youre supplying them that is)
but at that price an average room of 8 at around £300 not incudng any other work which wth bonding and rcd protection would prbably make a bill of around £500 for a days work, customer will only see the cost of materials (and thats just the basics)

£3.50 a fitting £1 a jnction box and a 35p a mter of cable, bulb £1 each talking £60 for materials max so £240 for a days work sounds good to me but it probably take me two days. and still sounds good

Where are you getting fire rated downlighters from for £3.50 and can you get me some?

your living in a dream world !

try this and you might actually comply with regs.

FR downlight, im getting them for £6.35 with the vat
3 wagos £0.60
1 wago/ choc box £1-1.75 ish
3mtrs cable per fitting which allows for supply runs, £1.20-1.75
decent lamp as customer will go radio if the cheap £1 bulb blows in a fortnight £2
and if its LV then £4.50 for a tranny

only have to be fire rated if theres insulation above, most say long as 100mm clearance all angles, £3.50 normal robus foittings is good to go? maybe im wrong hightower, but manufactures instructions over rules all

Do you think its a good idea to discuss such costings in the open forum? Maybe best in the Arms.

To be fair I have tried that before but takes a little too long to get a response if any.... Nothing to hide with my pricing it's all clear and transparent to my customers :smiley2:

Oh well it was worth a try posting, was doubtful I would get a simple answer of £xx/ per fitting. Maybe I was being a little vague with my inital post..... nevermind.

Thanks anyway Sy

i charge a bit less than you ( £25-£30 ) if it's easy access above ( proper floor, not weetabix.) around the same £35-£40 if it's a pain.

the old myth. the fact is that fire rated fittings are to preserve fire barriers. it don't make anything fire proof. fire rated fittings are only demanded when the above floor is separate occupancy or a dwelling room/s above a garage etc.

and the loft insulation cowboys will cram 2 ft of fibreglass over a naked flame if it were left to them.

why 2 days for some downlights?....plot your joists (to avoid em)..cable, rods..etc....2 days????

the last time and first time i done them. i marked out all joists and marked all places where wanted lights to go but as i progressed there was double joists and joist crossing for extra support so the few hours i spent marking out was a waste a time. id say next time or time after i will get all done in a day if i cot say 100mm track out all way round room, and i used junction boxes with heat resistant flex off too lights, was very time consumin if i dont say doing it yourself

The last 2 i did, i was able to get above and drill either side of joists at each end of the room. Chalk lined it all out so could see joist positions. Took a bit of time to set them out but didn't run into cutting into joists

you want an apprentice next year glen spark when ive level 3 done before telectrix snaps me up like a sausage roll;)
Why didn`t you go on the apprentice framework from day one?...I am on level 2 year 2 so have the NVQ this year......but the point i was trying to get across was 2 days for some downlights seems a bit exessive.....what do you think?

2 days seems very excessive!! how many you fitting 100???

i fitted 10 once in a customer lean to extension with no access from above and no idea where joists where!! took 3/4 of a day between 2 of us..!
