rewire and smoke alarms

Hi,

Been asked to rewire a house buy a friend of mine which is fine, nice and easy house to wire as there is no furniture or carpet. But going though what he wants in the house, he doesn't want mains powered smoke alarms. He just wants battery operated ones :wacko: No idea why! Why can't people just be normal?

This is the first time anyone has ever said that to me.

Why would anyone want a lower level of protection for themselves and their families? Mains interlinked >>> Battery only >>> None at all

Missed out on a rewire last year as client wanted no Smoke Alarms at all fitted. Would rather not do the work than potentially face a manslaughter charge of not fitting them. And even if no legal action over it, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night not having put them in.

The Fire Service of Northern Ireland have spent a lot of money over the years on advertising for people to check their alarms (The Thumbs up on Monday effort).

Tell him it's a requirement of mates rates lol. Always amazes me when they put the best of everything else in and skimp on the life savers.

a re-wire is notifiable work as such falls in with the building regs, as a requirement of the building regs mains powered interlinked smokes must be provided, and seeing as you are gonna rip his house apart to put all new circuits in what is the problem in wiring these in anyway??
