Can I put a shower switch in the airing cupboard as there isn't a place that would be suitable for a pull cord

It's an airing cupboard, most likely outside of the location.Check the 'zones' distances for where the cupboard is.
By virtue of having walls and a door, it becomes outside of the location.and if isin same room theres will be a wall and door , so moreless separate from bathroom
If it's outside of the location, then there are no zones.Well check the zones to be sure, I don't have a regs book in front of me or I would check for you. I would imagine that if you leave the switch in the on postion and don't attempt to switch it off or on from the bath/shower or when touch anything conductive in the bathroom you'll be ok.
