Discuss What is this box and cable on the side of my house? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

My deeds (physically in my ownership) include that stuff, but I see now you are referring to deeds held specifically by the land registry. Must admit I don't know what the land registry hold for mine.

Not a lot ...........(of people know that), as Paul Daniels used to say!. Sorry OP for hijacking your thread

So, according to a friend it could be an old Rediffusion box?
+1 from me too. The last similar box I came across was some sort of amplifier/repeater along with passive tap offs. The amplifier used valves that were still merrily glowing away, must have been running for years. I wonder if it still has power to it!

As soon as I can get someone here to test this stuff I will update this and let you all know, right now we are in the process of being moved to a new land lord (Housing Association) hopefully they will want to send someone out to take a look at the property they just took on and then ill mention it along with a whole list of other issues that come with these types of property

If it is Unmetered Supply, then the DNO for your area will (should) have a record for it. Most of them are for street lighting, a few are for bus shelters and the like.

The DNO is the company that owns the local network, it need not be the same as your Electricity Supplier (the company that sends your bill) but it will be mentioned at the bottom of your electricity bill. It will say something like

"Distributor:

Bloggins Electric Power Distribution, Some Road, Anytown, Countyshire, SW1A 1AA.
Call 0800 123 4567"

and there should be a phone number.

There will be a multi-box with a lot of numbers in it beginning with S nearby which relates to your own supply. It will not relate to the unmetered supply.

You might start by telling them there is an Unmetered Supply point in poor repair and the door is swinging open.

If you own the house it is possible that they owe you ten shillings a year for having it there.

p.s.
If you don't get anywhere phoning them, write a very short letter and post it. It will be logged and passed along until it reaches someone who knows what to do.

The Service Desks have limited training.
