A customer called me and asked if I could have a look at a connection he had performed on his generator. The cable he had attached to the generator was a 3x95mm2 aluminum. The main fuse on the generator was 400Amps! I did not approve.

He might not have a crimp for 95mm. All he had to do is hire one for the day and put the cost on top of the job!!!

It is these sort of things that cause problems for the next electrician. Soon as you see that and you tell the customer that you can not touch anything until that is rectified (at an extra cost), the normal reply is "well, it was done by an electrician and it has worked for years". Time to pick up the tools and walk away.

The pic will be here in a few months , when some one finds the bodge the QS of a Niciec reg firm did yesterday. he had to move the 45A cooker switch in a highend newbuild. new backbox 30cm to right of old place ,joined the 10mm twinearth in the old box, cut 2 cores off of cores to fit in yellow crimps and then filled the box with silicon it looked like jellied cables. some one could easily hit the cable as it is now out of zone .

nope it might be covered by the hob wall protector. it was i real mess cant believe the builder agreed to it , it took him half a day , i would of put a holesaw thru the plasterboard ceiling in edge above new switch and as a shorter run pulled same cable up and put it down. i would definately have a bit of mess to sort out than non compliance with cable not in zone no access to joint etc

I have and seen a few. Cowboys use them as earth straps and when they have not got a gland or are lazy to earth the wire armouring on swa.

Suprisingly they are used and supplied in some resin joints

The difference being that properly made with a supporting ring under the armour and surrounded in cast resin so no movement is possible it makes a good connection

They are used on high voltage cables with heatshrink they do put a ring under the armourings tho.

They can do I'll dig a picture of a gland using a jubilee clip properly

Not the neatest with the run off bitumen, but you get the idea.
