cooker isolation

I've got to quote for 4 x single phase ovens to be connected to a single isolation point then run back to a single phase db, assumed each oven/ hob is 40a max (no spec yet) any one done this before? What isolator would you suggest I use (200a?) and mcb at db ? Cable size would be >25mm!!

Think it would be better if you used a DB in the location of the ovens fed via submain from original DB, put 4 separate breakers in for the supplies, and then separate local isolation for the ovens, others on this forum have argued that a DB can be considered a point of isolation. Loads of issues with having 4 circuits connected to one isolator!!!

Are they single ovens (ie supplied with a plug top) or oven and hobs??

As the electrician, it should be you advising the customer on how these ovens etc should be installed, not the other way round!!

Many thanks for the replies I think the best solution would be an additional db in the kitchen, using a contactor sounds do-able with an emergency push switch. The main contractor is mitie so they don't give a s*** how its done, they just want it done !! No spec on the ovens yet, so just working out options at moment

Yeah a light switch that turns on a neon next to the fuseboard so then the contractor knows to turn off the mcb to the lights I think that might be expensive to get a contractor there on day rate for the rest of his/her life though

Rule #1 never allow the client/customer to dictate the design etc of an electrical installation!! If they insist, walk away and let another Mug take on the responsibility!!

I have done this before in a school cookery class room , what we did was install 28 cookers on their own 40 amp isolators beside each cooker to give local isolation , and then at each end of the class room an emergency stop connected in series to an to a contactor controling all cookers and socket outlets in the room , but not the lighting , so the same could be done on its own dis board for the cookers , no problem

I think it's for some sort of care unit to teach them how to cook?? I think as ray said using contactor's is the solution (there's no lighting involved, think the thread has gone off on a tangent )

E54s right, I feel strongly about this also, builders like to make rules as well, I always insist on doing the job my way unless a real engineer is controlling the job, the client in this case is crackers to suggest such a thing, I bet it's a woman LOL

And i know just the 19 year old to install them too!! And wire in a control circuit to a Gas cut-off valve, and no doubt test the lot too!! lol!!

well, there you go. it's the 19 year olds that follow the path of the force. hopefully they'll take the right side ( 3 years college with practical through employer ) or the dark side ( 5 weeks distance learning with as much practical experience as a monkey on steroids ).
