I don’t think the neutral bar should be floating around like that.
Was only replacing it for a usb type. Managed to squeeze some wagos in there. It's a pain in the --- for dead testing having them all twisted like that.yes, thats pretty standard when it comes to old wiring.
Did you get it tidied up? Bit of sleeving? Job's a good 'un
I didn't think of that. I was slightly concerned the wago's weren't going to fit and I didn't have any extension things with me to just hack them off.combi drill in reverse, soon untwist that pile of crap.
Says on here suitable for solid, stranded and flex: Wago 41A 3-Way Lever Connectors 30 Pack - https://www.screwfix.com/p/wago-41a-3-way-lever-connectors-30-pack/755HV?
Almost certainly , intermittent arcing when switched oni'd bet on poor contact of plug fuse .
Nearltly all old stranded house wiring I come across has had the sh!t twisted out of it ...yes, thats pretty standard when it comes to old wiring.

You still get the push fit style Wagos, they have a couple ranges of them at least - the 2273 are newer and smaller, and there still is the 773 seriesYou should always use the lever with a Wago that has that facility, the days of forcing in a cable are a while ago and the old type of Wago, in fact I don't think they make them anymore, certainly I can't find them on their web site, but TLC still have them, in preference I would always use the lever type.
True however with flex sometimes you have to as you tend to get spider legs, I always give em a tug and if they don't pull out then they won't fall out.Pretty sure they should not be twisted after stripping if putting into a Wago?
Who drilled and tapped that set screw into the solder? How much more should I shift this cable.View attachment 99877
Which screw the one with the earth on it?Who drilled and tapped that set screw into the solder?![]()
Yeah, it's on the banjo, I know...but it does look like it screws into the solder..Which screw the one with the earth on it?
It is a banjo a strange set-up but it is rock solid. Look lower down there is the original braid.Yeah, it's on the banjo, I know...but it does look like it screws into the solder..![]()
It’s a good job I’m only 6ft and 15st. Otherwise it would have been a really really tight squeeze to sort it. Instead of just the really tight squeeze it was!So they over clad the original ceiling by the looks , I often find those big transfomers feeding a bunch of 12v spot lights wired like that using twin flex and connector block
The issue is often getting to the transformer which is often inaccessible without mashing a hole somehwere
I used plenty of cable lube.I’m 6’, and there’s no way I’d be fitting in there without taking most of the ceiling down….
I didn’t lick it this time as hadn’t long since had lunch, so should be ok…Hope that Artex did not contain Asbestos.![]()
All very well being flippant about it, but that ceiling coated in Artex had been Drilled, punctured and cut and could have released fibres into the loft space, I hope at the minimum you wore a mask when in the loft.
I always wear a mask when in lofts. 99% of the time around my way they all seem to have the old fibreglass in which gets everywhere. All very well being flippant about it, but that ceiling coated in Artex had been Drilled, punctured and cut and could have released fibres into the loft space, I hope at the minimum you wore a mask when in the loft.
And accessible.Still, did avoid lifting many floorboards, so I can see the advantages of the system, if fully labelled!
