Guys, my trusty 20 yr old Bosch drill is getting ready to make its final hole. I haven't bought a drill for 15 yrs so a little out of touch with whats out there. Basically when i bought the Bosch it was the dogs and has served me well but there are so many new makes out there like Dewalt, Milwaukee, etc. What i want is a pretty heavy duty drill, plenty of power, slow for hole cutters and high speed for normal holes and will last at least 10 yrs. Can someone tell me which make is equivalent nowadays to how my Bosch was - thx

i have been using a 36v bosch sds and its perfect except the price about £370 lol but if i had the cash spare would be buying one myself

thx, sds might be a bit overkill, dont want throwing off me ladder lol :-)

Will have a look at Bosch - see what they got

Been using a combination of a Bosch 36v SDS for chiselling and drilling big 'oles (anything above 8mm in masonry) and a cheap Makita 18v combi for everything else. The Makita's about 5 years old and gets abuse heaped upon it but it refuses to die. It was one of those cheap offers with 3 weedy 1.3Ah batteries and charger for a hundred quid. Notice Toolstation are doing the same offer with the latest version of the drill and 3 higher capacity (2Ah) batteries for £129.00 - worth considering?

Recently bought a Metabo 18 LTX which is super. I also have one of those cheap Makita jobs, which as Julian says just keeps on going and has outlasted a Bosch 18v cordless which cost twice as much with only two batteries. The toolstation offer seems very good value to me.

The only Bosch stuff I would buy these days are there SDS drills, which are superb.

Iv found "toolstop" good prices and service www.toolstop.co.uk they have good clearance and special offersection
personaly i got makita 2 part kit Lion batterys 2ah found the lesser ones dont have the "grunt" for any length of time and the Makita tools compatable with the 18v battery makes it an attractive package their 18v SDS does the buisness for normal holes ect but it doesnt chissel iv got an old dewalt for the abusive stuff
