Setting up accounts with wholesalers

Hi all,
I currently don't have any accounts with wholesalers but am thinking it's going to need to be done soon.

In your experience, are there any hoops one would have to jump through, generally speaking, before being accepted by them to do so?

I think I once saw a thing about must having a certain amount of turnover etc.

Wholesalers near me down in Lancing in Sussex are:

Eyre and Elliston
Gardner and Scardifield
Kew

Further afield are QVS and CEF in Hove but am loathed to go to cef if i can help it.

Think I just need some reassurance.

Most wholesalers will do a personal credit check on you if you are a sole trader with no references from old accounts, if your history is OK then you will likely get a small credit limit. Some of the will check with your bank for your creditworthiness.
Some of the independents will fairly readily grant credit, most large wholesalers are not so stringent on small accounts but would not be keen if you have a bad credit history, just worth asking them, you will need a credit account.

Seems most wholesalers are desperate for the trade at the moment, I get several calls a week from people in Gloucestershire Asking If I want to open an account

The one I'm trying to open at the moment are asking for trade referrences. I'm not sure what these are - companies I've provided services for in the past who can vouch for me, or other sparks in the trade who I know?

All I would suggest is that don't spend all your money with 1 supplier - use 2 or 3 ands make sure they all know about each other.

If you are a sole trader, most will do a credit check on you/your address.

Thanks Murdoch, yes I plan to use at least two. I do anyway, but I'll go back to them and say I don't have any references and can they just do a check against my account.
