is the supply tpn or single?

what is the expected load on the installation.

for example a large shop/factory will have a tpn supply and maybe 3 phase equipment.

others have an 11kv intake and multiple stepdown transformers to supply 400/230 power.

ill get my books out in a min and check the official answer.

you can check if the supply is adequate for a new machine by using a clamp meter/data logger on the intake to check there realistic max demand.

it might be a case that certain high current machines need to be interlocked to keep within the suppliers limit or request a new/upgraded supply

The characteristics of the supply can be obtained from the distribution network operator by enquiry (check their website!).
The size of the supply would be determined by the DNO and the consumer together, the consumer would specify their maximum demand, but the DNO may only be able to supply X KVA in a certain area and if more power were required it would entail significant additional costs to modify the local network.

You are looking at the voltage, frequency and number of phases for the supply to be the same as that of the equipment to be installed.
You would also need to compare the maximum demand of the installation against the proposed supply capability.
