What Qualifications Do I need to Become a CCTV Installer / Engineer?

Hi there, as the title suggests I would like to complete a course in cctv installation with the long-term goal of becoming a sole trader and working for myself.

I am aware that there could potentially be other aspects such as alarm and fire systems but at the moment I would appreciate any help and advice in a course that would give me all the info I would need to be competent and confident to install security systems for clients.

I am looking at completing a city and guilds course level 1 2 3 with a local training provider in my area would this be sufficient?

I am also aware that I would need experience, but I will worry about this once I have completed my qualifications as I feel I would be in a better position to apply for a job or work experience.

I should also point out i am 27.

To work on cctv and alarms which are generally 12v systems you need absolutely no formal qualifications

As above no qualification but you will have to be aware of code of practice for CCTV
You can sign up to a scheme like NACOSS

For example if you fit a camera you have to make sure it not intruding on someone privacy like looking through a bedroom window

I think a lot of manufacturers do f.o.c. day courses. ok, they are based upon their products but a lot of the same between.

I don't wish to hijack the thread but I'm also looking at potentially doing a CCTV/Intruder alarm course with the long term aim to get out of my current job as desk based engineer. Totally fed up with office politics and want to be my own boss down the line. I have some basic electrics experience but no qualifcations in that field. Confident of picking up new skills quickly and building a business successfully.

Can anyone recommend a course, C&G, Tavcom, Other? I would like to focus on CCTV and Intruder Alarms.

I have seem Eaton offer free courses from entry level to advanced on their systems, what other manufacters offer training? Free or not?
