Im getting really sick of going to jobs that have been done in the last few years where the electrician hasnt used sleeving, grommets ect. Im finding it very rare for electricians to bother with this stuff.

Ive spent the last couple of months going round putting right and checking jobs done by other sparks and most of them have needed sleeving done on them.

A lot of these jobs were done perfectly well apart from this one thing.

I know its only minor but when im doing anything with these jobs i have to disconnect all the cables and sleeve them up. It really irritates me. Ive spoken to plenty of sparks who I would consider to be better than me generally in terms of knowledge or skill, buit they refuse to use sleeving as they dont see the point.

Does anyone else find this is widespread?

How do you guys feel about sleeving cables?

...use of grommets has been with me since my first days in the industry (1972). Sometimes it's been a bush and locknut/ring where appropriate.

Grommets are a pet hate of mine. Too often they don't stay in place and too often they're too lazy to disconnect the wiring so they cut the grommet to allow it to be fitted as an after-thought. I use glands or bush and locknut every time.

Where I am sleeving of earths isn't a requirement but I sometimes do sleeve if the panel layout benefits from it. I always identify wiring using printed labels rather than coloured sleeves

Commercial/industrial installations certainly need more in depth identification of conductors/labelling of switchgear/end user accessories than domestic installations.

Off topic, but it certainly seems on topic in this thread, I have yet to meet a fellow sparkie who is a member of a non drinking society (with the exception of alcoholics anonymous).

Add to AA, those of a religious sect, those who have a medical condition and those who are just plain p'ss poor broke.

My drinking days end when a medical condition (death) gets me.
