Just passed my part p assessment with Elecsa, and now want to start getting the bigger work in, which is the best way of going about this?? Are councils worth the bother??

Thanks.

you may find councils stipulate that you need to be part of the NIC"rip off"EIC as the clerk or works is probbaly a old school joiner who knows no better about part p and thinks only one trade body exists!

alot are changing ways mind you! it also helps that British Gas are Elecsa Registered via the ECA connections!!

i would suggest do some high quality advertising and direct mail shots to big companys!

if you can afford to stand out materials and labour for 60 - 90 days, then by all means, try council work. i'd like to see councils wait that long for their council tax. that has to be paid in advance!

Strict criteria to work for councils round here now and don't forget its who you know as well.

They do prefer NICEIC Approved Contractors and their own "long arm reach set ups" are normally NICEIC as well.

They like to see a good turn over £££, plus past contracts/clients and ask for 10 million pounds liability insurance.

Some ask you to join construction line, its not a simple process.

The Government brought in a scheme where councils pay within 14 days to keep little firms viable and it was happening a couple of years ago.
