Turn the power off and continuity test to find the break in the control circuit, drawing it out as you go.
Im guessing if inexperienced people are fault finding they wont have a correct isolation procedure

Isn't this what you suggested in post #2?Obvious I would have thought, advising someone to go poking around in a piece of equipment without safe isolation, well there's the rub

Oh sorry, but didn't you advise him to check the coil without isolating first?Not really just gave him 3 possible scenarios that could be the cause.

I,m outThe OP is an Electrician so we can assume certain common sense practices, it seems that this is out of his field of experience hence he posted for a few hints and until he responds the thread is in stalemate tbh, but in the meantime if you two can stop bouncing off each other with nit picky comments and retorts it will be appreciated as it just pulls the thread down and doesn't help anyone.Play nice guys!
