Evening all,

have been asked to quote for basic rewire in a small 2 bed ground floor flat. the ceilings are concrete as they would be. the flat is still wired in mineral cable with the copper outer sheath on a 3036 board. the customer was asking for a number of additional sockets etc, i suggested a rewire.

2 questions, would you guys recommend a rewire? and how do you about getting cables to lighting points, Surface & trunking?

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

MICC is still top notch and used regularly. My most common usage in the last few years has been local authority work such as outdoor community lighting ( at least 'till the gov. funds ran out).

Yep, and it will probably out last those present community lighting fittings you installed and the future replacements too!! ...lol!!

It's strange with the colleges omitting MICC work, that in the new BGB the IET actually included it in Reg 560.8.1 MICC as one of the recognized cables for safety services wiring systems,

Will there be anyone able to install it in 10 yrs time?

i did the two day refresher two and still we didnt cover it, we covered fp200 and we were told that it has been omitted completely.

i beleive you may have been looking at the previous am2, for some reason the information for this one is readily avaialble whereas the new one doesnt seem to leave a paper trail
You may well be correct, it's the refresher course they are currently offering, maybe the website is out of date with respect to the course contents :)

You will probs find that the micc cable is imperial sizes if the board is 3036.not many sparks have any pots n seals for that stuff I can tell you.what about doing the additional sockets in fp200.as for the consumer unit terminate into a metal ko box if the cables are short and extend to new board.use seratted washers as well.

we should have saved imperial years ago. i'm fed up of having to look at my tape measure , converting meaningless mm to inches.LOL.

with imperial you can have accurate measurements, say, 4 and 7 64ths. that converts to 105 and a bit millimeters .......rubbish

Ive done loads of Flat rewires, working for the Council. The best stuff to use is CT2 coving trunking by MK, In a normal flat situation you should cove the kitchen, lounge, and halls, and 1 bedroom as you can pick the the lights and sockets up through drilling back to back. Then use YT2 going out to the lights. If the customer doesnt want this shown, maybe you could sujest that they lower the ceilings by a couple of cm.
