Hi,

Just wondered if someone would give me some advice? My house has just been completely rewired during a full renovation, during this the meter was relocated along with the fusebox. The meter box has been put on the side of my house and the main feeder cable comes through a hole drilled straight through the back of the box which then emerges about three foot off the floor in the middle of the wall, it then runs to the corner of the wall where it runs up to the fusebox in boxed in section.
Is this actually legal as part P says that the cable can only run 150mm from the corner of the walls directly upwards? also can the main feeder cable be buried in the wall? Sorry for being long winded but it all looks a bit of a mess and my builder keeps telling me its "the regulations"!!
Thanks in advance.

Hi Bricktop, a photo would help a lot.
What does this "main feeder cable" look like. How many separate cables?
Is any part of the cable buried under the plaster (it's not clear from your description), or is it all on the surface?
If it's on the surface, the cable can be run anywhere you like. If it's buried then the rules are much more complicated and depend on the type of cable and whether any additional mechanical protection is used.

if buried in the wall, it can only be run in prescribed zones. as you say 150mm from corner up the wall is OK, but it sounds as you are saying it runs horizontally 3ft from floor to the corner. that is not compliant.

A rather vague description, if the cables are buried in a wall then they need to be run either horizontally or vertically from a accessory, if they are surface mounted then they can be run anywhere on walls.

A picture would be a big help. Sounds like he's chosen the easiest and quickest route rather than something more aestheticly pleasing.

Can you post a picture, that would be best for clearly up any confusion, along with a picture of the inside of the meter cupboard.

To me it sounds like the meter tails exit the back of the meter box to inside a room about 3ft off the floor, the height of the meter box.

They then travel sideways, possible boxed in, to the corner then vertically to the C.U definitely boxed in.

I beleive the O.p wants them hidden.

Th O.P seems confused about up 150mm from the corner and only at 150mm from the corner,
