Does anyone know if there is a specific regulation regarding the type of light that needs to be installed in an office. I want to convert a room which currently has t8 twin fittings in to an office with VDU's....would the t8 be adequate or would they need to be changed for a louverd fitting ?......any advice would be most gratefully received ....thanks

They would need the cat' louvres on them which reducers eyestrain and headheaches created by the 100hz flicker of the lamp clashing with the screen flicker, although not perceptable it has a very waring effect on the eyes.

Alrite mate probably the best documentation on office lighting specs would be CIBSE lighting guide 07: office lighting, that's the bible for designing office lighting. However it might be bit hard to get hold of a copy on the internet. These are not regulations just it just sets out what is a good design. I know as rule thumb in a office you want about 450-500 lux on desk/tables heights with good uniformity about 0.7-0.8. So in real terms with out faffing on with proper lighting calcs if the room has previously been designed well a fitting with similar lum output ,photometry and at the same quaintly should give you similar light levels.

To add to my previous post this a free copy of SLL:code for lighting handbook (They with CIBSE produce the lighting guides), Chapter 9 all about office lighting and what is required by it.

Hope it helps

Yes the SLL guide. Like said above they are part of CIBSE and the guide is more up to date that the individual CIBSE guides. As a rule of thumb if you divide the max spacing between luminaries by the distance from working plane. This should be below 1.75 in order to achieve good uniformity.
