We're quoting for some new streets lights to be wired and installed.

Our lighting specialist wholesaler has brought to our attention a type of lamp, that has the street furniture (choke ect..) built into the actual lamp.

Not had much to do with street-lighting apart from re-pair work so i've never come across these before, however the price of the lamp (although they're still expensive) will considerably reduce the overall price of the job if we take this route - because from the street connection unit at the bottom of the post it'll literally only need a t+e up the post into the lampholder. I haven't physically seen them yet though so was wondering if anyone has had anything to do with them, and if they're as good as they sound?

Can't quite remember the name of it, something like a "compact induction discharge energy saving / long lasting lamp" something like that anyway haha.

Thoughts? Or best to get the old fashioned and normal route?

Surely the problem will late rwhen carrying out maintenance and you are charging 3 times as much to replace one lamp. Unless you have explained this to the customer already?

Aye, i had thought of that. But ive been "reliably" informed they'll last for 10years...unless thats just general wholesaler salesman chatter!

I've not put the price in for the job yet, going to do it today/tomorrow, so will have to explain that. £50 a lamp not cheap isit, but the cost of a complete street lamp head is considerably more....so the question is, how long do the ballasts and chokes generally last? how longs a piece of string :\

The ballast could last over 10 years, the ignitor and lamp wont though...

Is this for council? Id of thought they would be going for LED...

You seriously think they have been testing that particualr lamp for 10 years?

Always wary of when new products come onto the market with all this guarantee of a long life expectancy etc.

Nah you're probably right buddy to be fair, it's just me seeing £££'s and my eyes-lighting. Probably need to be abit more careful don't i, i don't think i'll quote with them in - if ive missed an opportunity ive missed an opportunity we live and learn. I'll let another sparks make the mistake/gain and in a couple of years time we'll have a better idea of them, they'll either be still around and selling like hot cakes or faded into the distance like so many new products do. Cheers Dillb, ill keep my feet on the ground.

No its not for the council, its private, they're wanting 6street lamps wiring fresh.

Not saying don't use them, if they are all that ask the rep to take you to see where they are already installed and talk to the people who are responsible for maintaining them. I am sure they will have no problem with that if you potentially have a big pot of money to spend on them.

I think the lamp's are french

:frown:

Can you not get igniter built into lamps as in sonE sonI, or just buy complete fittings or do you have to use what's their and add new guts.

It's on farmland, theres no lights there whatsoever so the swa needs digging in and the job doing from scratch.

I just enquired about these because you'd literally need nothing in the head of the lamp apart from the lampholder and that lamp. I think you can get igniter built into sonIs ? because you don't need seperate gear, not sure about E's?

Might be the better option with sonI actually i=p/u

the clients gonna think im a right clown giving like 4quotes in haha.

son/ I 's still need a seperate ballast even though the ignitor is built into the lamp
and the light output on the opaque bulb that you pictured will be pants.
i would go metal halide HQI fittings - modern in appearence , pure white light , uses no more power than son's.
result. ;-)

And they replacing with white instead of orange, just look out your window and see for yourself

I was told the light picture gives the same as an MBFU lol! Can't really see that happening, im probably gulable :)
