With all the trouble in the Middle East and North Africa the experts think that petrol is going to go up to 140p for a litre and more for a litre of desiel.I can't speal for others but this will break the camels back for alot of the working class people trying to run a house and a car.It is bad enough with jobs few and far between but you need a car to be in this trade.
When I got my current car six years ago it was £33 for fourty litres and now it is £51 where will it end as I will be like many others and will be priced of the road.
There is also thr point that nearly everything in this country comes by road on the back of a lorry so when the price of desiel goes up the prices of everything else has to go up as well.
I urge everyone to go to www.fairfueluk.com and sign the petition as the more people sign it the more clout these campaigners will have.
On the above website you can read peoples stories on how the high fuel prices are affecting them.
It is also affecting people who use oil for central heating badly as well as drivers.
So I will struggle and the planned rise in the Budget next month will not help either.
How will it affect you?

£8 a gallon is possible By July

we all have to remember that Petrol is not sold like other things . Its a very very difficult item to cost and sell
Expect the public to be well ****** off etc.

well if britian could take over libya we could be looking at 50p a litre ... hardlyyyyyyyyyy

i'll take over libya if we can get petrol that cheap nevermind britian lol, its a joke the price of fuel in this country, majority of it is tax

they want you to be honest citizens only to pay there taxes not cause they think its right....

bring on the electric car world wide then they can sniff there petrol

my old man, with the help of the 7th armoured, kicked Rommel out of Libya. . I'm sure our current armed forces could take out a tin pot dictator.

Have to agree read somewhere that in the rest of Europe it was 50% / 50% for tax against costs for manufacturing/profit, here it is 68% tax and 32% costs when paying for your fuel.

to be honest that price is probably gunna go up or stay it will never go down, we only have a certain amount of petrol on this plannet the more we use the less we have-the less we have the prices go up.
not long till were gunan be buying water to run our cars now anyway

Back in the 70's when raymond baxter (ex WW2 RAF fighter pilot ) was on tomorrows world there was a hydro car that could do 100 miles to the gallon on water , just disapeared off the face of the earth bought up by oil barrons ,and hidden away , now its comming back but slowly if during the 70's this car with the technologial advances over the years would be on the road today ,no pollution and economical ,the the fuel excise duty would be slapped on charging us .75p per litre as they do now ,to help us all out they should abolish the fuel duty but no the price keeps going up ,they blame the cost of wholesale cost of oil increasing infact its not its dropping will they pass it on to us no never , and you can bet your bottom dollor that the intrest rate will increase to adding to yet more misery

my lady works in community care half her wages goes on fuel she cant claim any back yet as shes only started 2 weeks ago it is a joke shes on about jacking it in already as its goin end up shel be working just to pay the fuel for work

i can see it over 2 pound a litre in the next 12 months least therl be less traffic

As most self-employed sparks will already know:
Jonesy83 tell your misses to keep a weekly mileage/petrol record and her petrol receipts, as she has no fixed place of employment she can off-set her tax. I think the current rate allowed by HMRC is 49p/mile. Even if her employer pays her a mileage allowance (say 30p/mile for this argument) then she would be entitled to claim the balance namely 49-30=19p/mile.

As far as I know theres 60p a litre tax/duty on recycled chip oil(ie Bio Diesel) now as well, and it will go up, so you can forget that....

What would happen if we were to get an electric car, and charge it up off the back of our own small wind turbine? they would probably class us as a micro-generating electricity producer and tax us on it.....I can see it now...they come along and fit a sealed meter between the miniature wind turbine and the car charging socket, and then bill us on a regular basis for it plus the vat, and some technology company will profit from making the whole thing fully automated....there will be plenty of people out there desperate for work and people from overseas who will jump at the chance to fit these meters for 6 pounds an hour...

And I can see the Electricity companies cashing in as well, they will force you to have a "special purpose" meter fitted and will charge you more per unit for the car charging electricity and ban you from plugging in to your house for that purpose....then the government will add duty to the electricity sold for car charging and the electricity bill will just go up and up......instead of looking at a pile of petrol station receipts you will just be looking at an electricity company letter/bill...

we will end up with people getting arrested for dealing in black market electricity.....warehouses getting found full of sockets and trailing cables into cars left in for a top-up LOL ........"what are YOU in for?"........"Car Electric Tax evasion and unlicenced electricity production, 8 years dude".....

well those private jets for the executive bankers and hookie businessmen (oil n arms dealers) do cost 26.5 million pounds each, oh and the big rollers cost a million pounds each with their gold plated grilles and bumpers, and get 6 miles to the gallon....then theres the 24/7 armed security gaurds to keep people like us from going UUhhhMMMMM and licking the roller windows....LOL

we here in this place are just getting it g*g b*ll and all and the rest of the world are laughing their tts off, we are being shafted by people who just shake hands with the taxman and get off a 80million pound tax bill....and the banks that pay nil tax on 20 odd billion, if one of us owed a few pounds (and I mean just a few pounds) the old feet wouldnt touch the ground, and the old black silk cap would come out of the drawer and have the dust blown off of it....:D

I can see them scheming how to get a meter in between that and your kettle (or car/van) the electricity companies (all foreign owned btw) will just get real pssed off and encourage the government to do that under the excuse of "generating revenue for the continued provision and development of national green energy infrastructure objectives" *codename operation shaftmore* and they will say "whats your problem its only a teeny weeny bit of tax" (on your own free energy taken from your own private "greener" generator) and that you must pay duty and VAT on it per unit generated...

Right now theres something called "Lobbying" which translates in klingon as "bribery" and if we were billionaires (or even just "well heeled wealthy businessmen") there would be all sorts of invitations to attend "trade fairs" and join "delegations" to "table suggestions" coming our way....table a case full of notes more like...

The dearest petrol i have seen so far is 134.9 for petrol and 139.9 for desiel and that was at a motorway service station. The sad thing is by Easter these will be normal prices for petrol, but it will be about 147 for desiel,How is the average working man supposed to afford this?

were not supposed to afford it, were supposed to get off the roads so the b*ntley and range rov*r drivers can have full use of them, although they will wreck them really quick as there will be giant craters(potholes) all over by that time LOL HAHAHAHAHA :)
I wont be surprised in 6 weeks if petrol is £1,64.3p and diesel is £1,78.7p I can see it very easily, and petrol in the USA will be $0.58¢ (about 40p) which will still be too much for the people there.....

I can see those little teeny tiny cars that are like biscuit tins with a hairdryer inside and have "free Road Tax" going to £100.00 a year Road Tax in the name of "fairness and equality" as they will say that so many people drive them now that the "incentive scheme towards compact fuel efficient cars" will need to go..

check it out the rade of Duty on Bio Diesel is now 59p a litre, and its going to go up, does that mean if I make my own fuel from chip oil and drive around on it, I'm breaking the law!!!!!!! :(

Grant

You know whats going on, its called social engineering, transferring any wealth the poor may have back to the land-lords or land grabbers, all the same, just different titles sir. Why does Charles need 300,000 + acres of land, you tell me when I live in a rabbit hutch ?

I seen perol at £138.9 last night and petrol at £143.9 at a motorway service station.this is daylight robbery. As people traveling on the motorway are a steady stream of customers needing fuel. This is a rip off.

round here deisel is £138.9 to £142.9 thats at the average price ..if im not mistaken fuel exsize duty is 0.67p per ltr and the double wammy is Vat on top so its double taxed doesnt matter which govermentis in they will still increase it till the country grinds to a halt it will be intresting what the budget brings probably another 2 p a ltr on top , they should try and come into our area and run a buisness where you have to drive for an hour or more just to get to the job

The dirty rat Gordon Brown put the tax up every budget he was in power an had his numpty Darling keep putting it up when Brown got the top job.It was a dirty trick they done last year spreading a 3p per liter rise out over the course of the year so people wouldn't notice so much when a General Election was being held. Then the Tory VAT rise atfter the New Year only made it worse.
I think they are at last seeing that this can't go on anymore the public simply can't afford it,with all the other price rises going up far more than the made up inflation rates you see on the news every month.I think that they will either freeze the duty rate or put a sneaky rise spread over the full year(just like last year).
There are alot of tax rises about to kick in when the new tax year starts in April which will make us worse of then we are now.
The robber (Gordon Brown) left a scheme in place for fuel duty to go up by inflation and one pence on top of that, for every new budget, but weither the Tories will keep that or scrap it who knows.
I know that beer and smokes will be going up as well, forcing more pubs to shut down and more jobs lost, and now everyone seems to buy their smokes at the Barra's these days

I saw diesel 1.45 yesterday not a motorway service station either. Petrol was 1.39. As stated before there possibly is other ways to run cars on water etc but do the big petrol companies want people doing that?? It's not going to get any better!!

I seen on the news a couple of years ago people running cars on chip oil etc,but it would be the Goverment thinking about the lost tax, they would come after it at some point.

Another point is due to the price of fuel most people will be forced to downsize their car, either through running a bigger one with a smaller engine or getting a smaller car.And with these smaller cars come better fuel economy and emisions.Which means if you get more miles to the gallon you will be buying less fuel and the goverment will get less tax.
Also for lower emisions you will pay less road tax, which means the Goverment will lose out on tax there as well.So if the Goverment is going to lose out on tax with this they must be thinking of another sneaky few ways to get the money from our pockets

Know a lad who tried run his on chip oil didn't work out to cheap for him as he did not modify engine correctly and knackered the engine.

My wife downsized from a pug 206 diesel 2.0 turbo to a Ibiza 1.2 petrol and she reckons the Ibiza is worse on fuel.

On some cars there can be as many as 20 miles to the gallon between running a petrol and desiel

just got rid of my 1.8 focus got a bloody xszra piccasso now its an extra 15 mpg

average prices ive seen is petrol 1.35 diesal 1.39.9 so far this week the van has had 200 quids worth of fuel plus 10 quid robbin git conngestion charge dont help gettin lost in london
