OK lads I'm having a rant (for a change)

Set off this morning with a young lad/man in tow to give him work for the day. I know this lad well, he has been good on a few sites and gain my respect.... He is looking for work so I made a phone call to some one that owes me a favor. Alright it is agency work but he was offered 5 months work on a commercial job due to my recommendation.

Today I have left site 2 hours early (80 miles away btw) so he could get to their office before they shut on a Friday so he can fill in the forms so He can start on Monday. Dropped him off at my house to pick his car up so he can drive to their office, loads of time to get to the office......

This evening I get a call from the agency manager! "Is your friend going to turn up or what? We need to know NOW!!!"

He should have been there at 4pm!



I've tried my best. You can lead a horse to water etc..... Some people just need to "man up" and take what has been offered to them via other peoples hard work.


This has made me think about the effort that I put into other people on & off the forum. Feeling a bit drained and very p!ssed off right now. This has lost me a good contact and friendship, IT wont happen again. Any one getting help from will have to prove their worth. I've been too nice for too long and today has learnt me a lesson.

Rant over, but I had to get it off my chest.

Also I know who the person is and must say I am surprised by that, but don't stop helping the others mate, they haven't done this to you.

There's only so much you can do to help some people, but if they aren't willing to help themselves, you are wasting your time!

I'm in a similar situation, I am doing some work for a builder / plumber friend, done quite a bit for him over last few years and never tried to rip him off. I got a nice job recently (not from him) doing a new install into a farm that was converted to a stables for race horses. The plumber they were using was old and couldn't hack the pace, so I said to the stable owner that I do a fair bit of work for this plumber, he will do the job.

It was to install an indirect cylinder with immersion heater so they can have hot water to wash the horses down. The job was done 3 weeks ago and plumber had to come back today to replace the element, as the water is supplied from a bore hole and the element looked like the inside of a 10 year old kettle!! The chap who owns the stables said I hope he's not going to charge me after seeing his labour bill for the original install - it was £800 for two blokes for 6 hours.

I was shocked and am now feeling like a tw&t because I recommended him. Seeing the plumber tomorrow so will be having very stern words! And won't be giving him any more work, the thieving toe-rag!

eddRobbo, the difference with Pauls problem his that he has put a lot of time and effort into this lad, giving him experience etc which a lot of people wouldn't do, so it is a bit crap for him to be repaid like this.

Paul Don't let what has happened today weigh too heavily on your mind, the Lad in question has dropped a massive Boll@ck, and will soon realise what a huge opportunity he has ruined. you couldn't have done more for him than you did, the rest of the lads need you so just put all your efforts in to them.

your not on your own, it seems to be a theme ATM on here highlighting how attitudes to work have changed with the younger generations.

unless you have spoken to him try not to come to conclusions, I suppose anything could have happened which prevented him getting there.

When I worked daarn saarf, we'd do a runner Friday dinner time and be home early afternoon.
Always had to have a few bottles before she got home, 20 seconds wasn't long enough (for me that is) after all week without.
