UK Speed Limits for vans ....................

I asked my mate who used to be a plod about this last night.

His view was that no fixed cameras can tell what category vehicles are ......... and Police car units with ANPR could but he thinks that the coppers driving wouldn't bother to check ..........

So nice and vague then.

Think Murdochs police chum, whas referring to fixed cameras, are the ones that are placed at accident hotspots, and just collect pics of vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit, the device just does that.

Whereas the average speed cameras may do more, as they are an ANPR device.

Ones in cop cars, the operator may have to interpret the information provided.

Have noticed pairs of yellow cameras next to gantries on the M25. No white lines on the road, so am assuming they are average speed cameras.

If you mean this type...

...then, no, not average speed cameras, 'normal' HADECS3 cameras which don't need lines on the road and can monitor all lanes.

Think the ones that ultimately give you a ticket are painted yellow, just to give you a fighting chance, whereas the variable speed cameras (M25 etc) are just grey; they are there to control the variable speed signs on the gantries when there's heavy traffic or bad weather, i.e. no prosecution.

Don't you believe it! HADECS cameras on gantries, as opposed to HADECS 3 on the side, are not always fitted with cameras but are still used for speed enforcement. National speed limit is enforced when no limit is displayed. Normally starts at 10%+2mph.
The CCTV cameras are used for monitoring traffic conditions.

Not true, the original HADECS cameras were only type approved by the Home Office for use "up to and including 60 mph."

Rule 264 of the Highway Code states that any vehicle that is fitted with a speed limiter must not use the right lane of a motorway if there are more than 2 lanes.

Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking. You MUST NOT drive on the hard shoulder except in an emergency or if directed to do so by the police, traffic officers in uniform or by signs.

And 265 only applies to certain categories of vehicles.

If its the right sort of anpr based speed camera then it checks speed. Tax insurance mot etc... it then determines type of vehicle based on the reg plate via dvla and then will flag for speeding if relevant.
I know in this area the police can put markers on a reg plate so that as soon as a camera picks it up they track and intercept it if the person is wanted... welcome to big brother society!!
They are now putting in linked average speed cameras so if you go from one camera or junction to another too quickly the they know youve been speeding at some point... will be a big money maker for them...

picks up waaay more than that LOL i got an "escort" out of manchester from the boys in blue on bikes and a helicopter, car i just picked up was involved with firearms and all sorts of fun stuff
