Flex to a fused spur

Hello all,

Can anyone help with my query please. If a fused spur has been installed by an electrician, tested and the relevant certificate filled out, can an alarm engineer connect an intruder panel to the spur using flex.

I am being told by a colleague this has to be done by an electrician then re-tested???

The site would be commercial and could be a new installation or replacing existing faulty panels.

He can do that as long as the fuse gets changed , it won't need to be retested

nothing to stop alarm engineer connecting to the FCU. most of the national alarm companies arrange for a FCU to be fitted by a spark, and then their eng. connects up. remember to check that the fuse is 3A.

edit: beaten to it by faster fingers.

As long as the alarm is the only "item" connected to the FCU and the FCU has the correct fuse fitted its OK.

does that mean we can't connect a plumber to the FCU as well .... Shame.

You can as long as you have a matchstick stopping the RCD from tripping.....
